Here Comes the Bride!

In The Undertaker’s Wife, there’s a chapter in which a woman – the “prophet in red stilettos” – shows up to attend a funeral and asks Dee Oliver (a.k.a. the undertaker’s wife who, by this time in the story, is the undertaker’s widow) if she is married. The Undertaker’s Wife

Part memoir, part how-to book, The Undertaker’s Wife offers insights on grief, survival, and the ever-present faithfulness of God. Sometimes poignant, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny, Dee’s story helps readers prepare for one of life’s only certainties–and do it with wisdom, grace, and a healthy dose of joy.

Dee Oliver should know a little bit about the business of death. When she married her husband, Johnnie, she married into four generations of a family of funeral directors going all the way back to the Civil War. It was only natural that she would become a part of the family business, too. Despite years of helping other folks plan for their final wishes, it was Johnnie’s untimely and unexpected death in 2007 that brought reality square in the face for Dee...

...she was not prepared. Not even a little bit. With a keen sense of humor and a breezy style, Oliver writes candidly about her experiences, especially the stumbling blocks she might have avoided by planning ahead. The result is an engaging, entertaining and practical “how to” about the one thing in life that is absolutely certain.
